i'm in gryffindor!
Voila

Here is a picture of the finished fingerless gloves. Glove #2 went much smoother, and I am loving using these gloves. They are very warm, and so handy! It's good to know they are good for other things besides spinning outside in the cold, since I don't do that so often.

Busy and Busy
01.26.05 (6:20 pm)   [edit]
This has been a whirlwind week so far. We just got in from working in Augusta. It surely feels nice to be back home. While away, I finished a pair of fingerless (well, almost fingerless) gloves. This is my first pair of gloves. I am not sure I enjoyed knitting them. They have partial fingers, just not fingertips. These will be used IF I have to demonstrate spinning outdoors in the cold. Pictures will follow when I get the chance to take them, upload them, etc... well, you know the drill.

The Answer is Yes

I haven't posted any knitting stuff in a week, and you may be wondering if I gave up on knitting and spinning. Not likely! Actually, I knitted a wonderfully easy and pretty poncho this week from a pattern from Knitting Pure and Simple and I have spun some lovely confetti roving from Copper Moose. This is wonderful fiber to work with, and for those of you who don't spin, she actually also sells the yarn from this in her E Bay Store.

I Am Not a Nerd!
01.19.05 (5:10 pm)   [edit]
This test was kind of fun, and I am less nerdy than I thought. After all, in high school, I was the girl that boys would call... to find out what our homework was (Eek!) I guess I have shed a little of that by now.

I am nerdier than 27% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

Wow!!

I just got back from my day with Elayne, and got to see the fabulous Mola Poncho in person. I have to honestly say, I was overwhelmed!! This is about the prettiest knitted piece I have ever seen! Check out the picture, if you haven't already done so, to get a preview. But, it is much more awesome than the picture shows. Kudos to you Elayne!

It's a Bird, It's a Plane... It's Ugly String!
01.14.05 (6:21 am)   [edit]
Well, not really, I guess. What it is... my first skein of cotton ever. Pretty inconsistent, but at least not falling apart.

I am developing a rhythm with the charkha finally. Unfortunately, my shoulder doesn't agree with me that this is the way to do it, so I am having to try to learn it a different way. Isn't that how it goes sometime?

Must run - I have a big day in Jacksonville planned with Elayne. First stop is A Stitch in Time!

Tamed!!!

I managed to finish winding off the Araucania, as seen by this picture:

Actually, I bought the blue already wound off, and I was VERY careful with the natural after my tussle with the red, that resisted my attentions. It went slow, but I only lost about 6 inches of yarn in the process (we won't count how many brain cells lost).

And, this is why I love spinning:

Here is a closeup. I am having to work from sock to sock, as I want to use all of the vareigated blue faced leicester that I can.

Happy Weekend!

A Short Tale
01.06.05 (5:02 pm)   [edit]
Scene One:

Customer goes into the LYS and spots some beautiful skeins of Araucania and thinks, "Hey, these would be great for some Fairisle." She takes them to the counter to pay where the shop owner's helpful mother/helper offers to wind the skeins off into a ball. Customer shrugs off the kind offer since she has her own swift at home.

Scene Two:

Customer goes home and puts the skein on swift. Hmmm... they must not tie these things the same way in South America. End result = a tangled mess. 240 yds. does not seem like much until one has to untangle the whole thing. (And yes, I am still working on it.)

I'm Back, But I'm Boring
01.03.05 (4:41 pm)   [edit]
Just a short entry to let everyone know that I'm back from Atlanta. I always breathe a sigh of relief when we are back home and out of the traffic. Not much on the knitting front to report. I am making a pair of socks from my handspun multicolor BFL and green mohair. They are going to be knockouts! I am still refining the design, but when they finally gel, I promise to post a picture. The colors are awesome - they remind me of vineyard colors.
