It Was Some Day Allright
08.30.05 (5:33 pm)   [edit]
Girls, have you ever wondered what kind of day it would be if every man you met was attracted to you? Well, I am here to tell you, if that ever happens, run, don't walk, the opposite direction! If I had been around movie stars or something, it might have been great, but I obviously don't run in the right circles. Case in point. Yesterday, I went to work (for those of you who don't know me, I am a consultant, so I don't work in the same place all the time). Here I am, trying to concentrate on my work, and this therapist, who is also a consultant decides he wants to talk to me, for what seemed like hours on end. I mean, on and on about everything... do I play tennis, do I have any kids, where am I from, etc., etc., etc. To make it even more difficult, he has a very heavy accent, and not only am I having to try to concentrate on my work, I am having to try to figure out what this guy is trying to say to me. Okay, he finally leaves. Home free, right? Wrong!!! The next one to come is a resident in the nursing home, umm... how to say this, well is someone who really needs some STRONG medication. For about 3 solid hours, he followed me around begging him to buy him a coke alternating with babbling on and on about who-knows-what kind of nonsense. Seeing this is a resident of the nursing home, I can't really tell him off... and it wouldn't matter anyhow, since he would not comprehend it. Okay, by the end of the day, I am worn to a frazzle... I head to my sleeping stop for the night, where the night clerk at the motel decides he wants to strike up a lively conversation. Okay, well I have to admit, he was young (a college student, I suppose) and nice looking, but hey, I could be his mom and by that time I was too tired to care. Wow, maybe now that I'm home, I can get some rest.

Yeah, I Know...

Yes, the yarn pooled on this sock. But, I don't mind pooling, especially when it looks like tiger stripes. Also, this was yarn I dyed myself while at the Shakerag Workshop.

Goodbye Crystal. You will be sadly missed. My thoughts and prayers to Bill and Billy.

Crystal Canning

Saturday August 27, 2005

Crystal J. Canning of East Burke, Vt., died Aug. 25, 2005, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, after being transported from North Country Hospital by DHART.

Born in Trenton, N.J., she attended Holy Cross Elementary School, followed by St. Anthony High School. She later earned an undergraduate and master's degree in archaeology from New York University.

She was born Sept. 24, 1961, in Trenton, N.J.

She is survived by her husband, William S. Mutschler; and her son, William H. Mutschler III. Her mother, Gail Perrine, resides in Yardville, N.J.

Crystal worked as a stockbroker in New York City, and fell in love with Vermont as a ski instructor. She later taught high school and also assisted in the preparation of patent applications at a law firm in Cranbury, N.J. With her husband, she operated an Internet/mail order craft supplies business, Copper Moose. Crystal was an active sports enthusiast - an excellent skier, scuba diver and horse rider. Last year she was awarded the Best Skein of Yarn, New England, at the annual Vermont Sheep and Wool Association. A fine chef, a lover of animals and plants including rare orchids, she had a zest for life and a positive outlook that brought her through a nearly fatal car accident that occurred in July 2004. She will be deeply missed by the many who loved her.

A memorial service is being planned.

Mollywobble's Socks
08.24.05 (8:29 am)   [edit]
This is the zaniest pair of socks I have attempted thus far. I love the interesting way they are mismatched, and, being the Harry Potter addict I am, they remind me of what Molly Weasley would make for herself and wear. So, I have named these socks in her honor:

All the yarn was spun from my hand dyed rovings. Soon, I will settle down and knit some things that actually blend and match, but for right now, I am just having too much fun! The socks were knit from Lynne Vogel's Shortie Entrelac Socks pattern with some minor variations.

Peeking in to Say Hi

Seems I have gotten a case of laziness/business all at the same time. I had tons of photos from our visit to Disney's Animal Kingdom on the camera, and was just to lazy to upload them. Hence, my blogging stalled as well. I finally did the task (which took all of 10 minutes at the most), freeing my camera up to take a picture of the Blue Faced Leicester I dyed on Wednesday. I may take a shot at selling these rovings. The blue/green/purple/turquoi se is probably already spoken for. Anyone who knows me will think I am keeping that one out for myself. But no... someone really does want it. Any comments? Is this stuff sale worthy?

Got a New Book!
08.13.05 (4:50 pm)   [edit]
Today, I bought Nicky Epstein's Knitting Over the Edge. The color work and rib edgings are awesome. I am not so sure I care much for the cord edgings - especially all the crazy ones. When the cord is used as applique, that is nice. But all the really loopy cord stuff is very strange. It takes a person more creative than I can be to figure out how to incorporate them into a nice design! But, overall, the book is a fabulous one.

Pant, Pant...
08.07.05 (10:58 am)   [edit]
Too busy to even breathe lately, much less blog. My tires have left rubber ALL over the states of Georgia and Florida this past month. How I squeezed in some knitting (a yellow and coral bamboo boucle shawl) is still a mystery to me. I am looking forward to a less hectic pace now, and a chance to add some more interesting content to this blog, albeit not today, unfortunately.

My cool bargain of the month was a find in an antique mall in Mt. Dora, FL. Skeins of yarn for 50 cents per skein. The wool is not soft - so what possessed me to buy it? Well, this yarn was all dyed with natural dyes, and I think will make a marvelous felted bag. Some of the yarn was labeled with the dye used, some was not. I know that marigolds, cochineal and hypercium were used. The other colors are anyone's guess, but they are nice.
