Not Your Ordinary Garage
02.26.06 (2:28 pm)   [edit]
Who says a garage is just for cars and tools? Here is a mini tour of my "dye studio".

This is my double utility sink (alas without hot water - so I have to heat the water in the microwave, but hey, it works!) Also, note the "bouquet" of cotton my husband brought home for me right around my birthday.

Next is my antique Putnam Dye Cabinet, put to good use, as you can see here. Some of the color names on the cabinet actually match those of dyes I have!

Last, but not least, a glimpse of my workbench with appropriate signage. My husband bought the license plate not realizing my vehicle doesn't have a place to attach it to the front.

Also, I just was subjected to a rather demeaning comment, by a fellow knitter, by the way. She was introducing me to a friend and told her that I dyed my own yarns. She said, " I hope I never get that bored." Huh?!?!? Well, if she ever wants me to dye some for her, I think I will say no, I am not bored enough to do that.

Even Better Pictures

Close up pictures of the billboard can be seen here:

Look!

Okay, I am probably not supposed to say who designed this awesome billboard, yes, the one going up the skyscrapers! But, it is someone I know...er... quite well. Maybe you can put 2 and 2 together.

Yarns in Waiting
02.11.06 (9:02 am)   [edit]

I haven't had much of a chance to post this week.  The alternating hot and cold weather here has left me feeling less than good.  Here is a picture of yarns waiting to become nice projects.  The red, white and black yarn is already tranforming into a pair of socks.  Believe it or not, the two sock yarns in the front DO match.  Hopefully, when I pull from the center to work, the socks will be identical twins.

The larger skeins of yarn are Wool of the Andes which has been hand dyed.  They will hopefully become a scarf.

I am not doing the Knitting Olympics.  I cannot receive the regular olympics on the TV, so I am suffering from a lack of motivation.  But, if I were doing the Knitting Olympics, I would be working on a felted bag with a spindle design on it for my book charkha.

Take a look at the new Art Gallery that Ann has set up! I am pleased to be included in today's post. Thanks Ann!

New Forecaster
02.02.06 (11:06 am)   [edit]
I "hired" a new weather creature this year. May I present:
BUNNY!!
Unlike the proverbial groundhog, if Bunny sees his shadow, spring is peeking around the corner!

This is from a free pattern that can be found at Heartstrings Fiber Arts and is made from a knitted square. Then, I finished my second pair of QK socks and loved the colorway, so I decided to try to copy it for a Bow Knot Scarf. This is 100% alpaca yarn I got at a swap meet - 3 skeins for $3.00. It was natural white, and I dyed it. The sock yarn is Handpaint by Opal.
