| Can You Hear My Drawl from Here? |

Thanks to Bess comes this delightful test:
Dixie Royal You are 86% true Southern! | | You are pure belle or gentleman! You know your Jones Soda, Nehi and RC colas, your Moon Pies and sweet potato pie; you'd absolutely die without air conditioners in the summer, and you've seen Steel Magnolias and Fried Green Tomatoes (or read the book!). Your grandmother lives in an antebellum home and has a cook who makes the best fried chicken and asparagus casserole and summer squash and everything else in the world. And you know the taste of honeysuckle and the feel of grass between your toes.
You are blessed. | | |
My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender: | You scored higher than 68% on Southerliness |
|
I think the redneck question kept me from getting 100% - but that's okay - I'll leave you to figure out what the redneck question was...

Okay, so I spent all afternoon and part of this evening sorting, tossing junk and arranging my fibers and small equipment, etc. I have my fibers neatly bagged AND labeled with fiber content (it's amazing I remembered what they all were after such a long time). I put a good portion of my knitting/spinning books on the shelving, too. (All except the ones I use or refer to the most). I would love to show you this wonderful set up... but alas... my digital camera has bitten the dust. Apparently this is a common occurrence with my brand of camera. The "focuser" is out of whack, and not only do I have fuzzy pictures, there are also horizontal lines running all through them. Ewww!

| Fie on Phi ... or Caveat Emptor |

Or... Feng Shui doesn't work when the bathroom is too small. Okay, yeah, this is a long rant about personal inconvenience. It is unabashedly selfishly motivated, so you are welcome to skip it if you so please. But, on the other hand, if you are planning a trip to Atlanta anytime soon and want to stay downtown, you may want to read on.
We made reservations at a trendy looking hotel. From the description on the internet, it looked heavenly. Home away from home, wood floors, calming interiors, area rugs and spa style bath. Sounds WONDERFUL, doesn't it?
Upon arrival we found even moving around in the room to be a challenge. There was a huge wooden tray on one of the beds that was (I kid you not) almost as big as the top of my computer desk. The cabinet for storing our luggage was not wide enough to accomodate our suitcase (unless we stood it upright, and that's no good when you want easy access to your clothes.) Then we opened the door to the spa bath. HAH!! There was no room to move around in there. The shower was an okay size but took up half of the very cramped area. We had to keep the door open when using the sink, it was so tiny. Even my husband could not move around in there, and for those of you who know us personally, you know he is not a large person.
There were all kind of "cutesy" haiku verses scattered around the room, one of which addressed the small bathroom. Also, some reading material about the hotel that talked about Phi and The Golden Mean, and about how natural symmetry was supposed to be relaxing and how the colors the room was painted was also supposed to be relaxing. Let me tell you, we spent very few relaxing moments in that little room.
As to the bathroom... That morning, before we left, I had a mole removed. It did really well until that evening when the wound decided to open itself up. Try to imagine twisting around to get some tissue to hold on it until you could get a bandage to slap on it, and then having to practically stand on your head to throw the bandage wrapper away under the sink. Then try to imagine a 7 ft high shower unit when you are 5ft. tall and want to remove the shower unit so you won't get your wound wet, but you do anyway and start bleeding again and then have to go back through the bandage routine again. Well, you think I had it bad... The following morning, Bill took a shower and the whole shower unit and attachment fell off the wall and hit him in the shoulder and the shower squirted water all in his ear. (Are we relaxing yet?)
(I forgot to mention that the previous night, we had to be moved because it was super noisy outside of our window).
It is a good thing our room was a "relaxing" color, or I guess we would have both had strokes.
On a positive note, we went to a cool store Ikea, and I ended up getting one of these:
Okay, so I am going for the yarn store look now. I got some red storage units to go inside 4 of the spaces.
And, I also got Stephane-Pearl McPhee's new book, Knitting Rules. I am liking it so far. It is a combination of prose on knitting and also helpful knitting tips!

On June 29, I will be heading over to Alabama for a spinning reunion/workshop with my "Twisted Friends". Lynne Vogel will be teaching a Spinning for Colorwork Knitting Workshop. It is going to be at a super cool retreat center and should be loads of fun! Lynne is opening the workshop to other spinners besides just us reunion people. If any of you are interested, check out this link or send me a message, and I will let you know all the specifics. I would love to see you there!
